Ready to see how Isela’s living room/dining room turned out? The above photo shows the entryway to her now gorgeous apartment. Welcome to the tour …. a modern apartment infused with decor from my client’s travels:
Even the door knobs got a new look:
We placed the dining furniture near the kitchen. The sleek / slim design of the table and chairs makes the space feel spacious – even when placed next to a huge sofa.
I looove the wood grain in these chairs:
Often there are items that I buy for my clients that I craaave for myself (if I were to re-decorate my home for the 5th time). The raw edge side table in this living room is SUCH AN ITEM! Stunning. Here’s a closer look so you can oooh and aaaaah:
I love how you can see the stairs from the mirror (makes the space look ever larger than it is … which is a.w.e.s.o.m.e):
Did you notice the carved details in the wall mirror? This mirror was ROUND 2 … the original arrived with the glass damaged. The vendor replaced it and gave us the OK to dispose of the damaged one.
The capiz shell rectangular pendant light fixture balances (in visual height + shape) the rectangular shape of the counter + upper cabinets … yep, I aim to balance EVERYTHING.
And here it is with the lamp turned off ….. yep, still gorgeous, right:
Isela travels a lot for her work. I remember her eye shining with joy when I shows her the 3 panel Buddha head …
. . . she recalled seeing it in her travels and had hoped to acquire one, one day. Well, her day came + instead of having the added expense of shipping it from overseas, we purchased it locally and she STILL had a GREAT story of seeing it for the first time overseas.
The masks, African sculptured utensils, and knitted bench were already owned (and loved) by Isela, I simply found a spot to accentuate their beauty + memories.
LETS REWIND, THE DESIGN PLAN
Here are design ideas I concocted in my lab (office) for my client Isela who purchased the apt and was ready to say bye bye to her college-like furniture items.
We added a larger .. cooler … L-shape sofa. Took about 6 weeks to deliver, EEK! But, worth the wait to get the beautiful fabric that flowed oooh so elegantly with the rest of the items we were going to incorporate.
Current light fixtures HAD TO GO .. blue pendants were toooo small for the space ….. track light simply looked awkward … and did you see the round UFO light fixture? <- disclosure … client completely agrees with my description.
Here’s a peek at the Design Presentation Board that I showed to my client for her approval. Check out the gorgeous white capiz shell pendant light fixture on the right side …
There was a bit of prep work before we could start having the furniture delivered … plaster, sand, prime … painting party!
Everything perfectly timed – thanks to the project management skills of an interior decorator (that’s me!), and her amazing assistant (Evelisa extraordinaire), contractors (thanks Unal, Murat, Danny … you guys are ROCKSTARS!), and my beautiful client Isela who trusted that we would get it done oooh so perfectly for her.
TV mounted to wall was a PAIN in the buttocks to do! Um, not that I actually did the installation (haha), but I do empathize when I see my contractors built up a sweat …. the wall was hollow to hold the tv’s swivel arm bracket that my client purchased (BRACKET was more heavy than the TV .. eek!). Problem solving …. contractors opened the wall …. placed wood studs … and voila … magic… I told you they are superstars!
Installation …. curtain rods up (on VERY high ceiling – thank goodness for the invention of ladders!)
Did you notice the unfinished doors? …. they didn’t stay like that for long … thankfully client gave me the thumbs up to paint paint paintthem! Here’s a peek on how paint starts turning the room to spectacular …..
