Sandra was ready for a huge change in her apartment! Her keep list was just a large mirror in her entryway, books, accessories, and the recliner that you see below for sentimental reasons and bec it was comfy. Her wish list was: to have a stylist dining and living room that felt welcoming and elegant while still being functional bec she also wanted an office area in her home. She currently used her dining table as her office area. I knew I had to change that ASAP!
For her design, with $4600 budget, I added a beautiful chandelier in her entryway, then as she entered, to her right was a table where she could drop her keys and mail, then to her left would be her home office (where the dining table used to be). I replaced her rectangular dining table with a round pedestal dining table and relocated the placement to be by the living room. Tip: when you have long rectangular room it is very important to balance it with round furniture items (hence the round dining table vs rectangular one.
I found a beautiful gray floral temporary wallpaper that she could add to her hallway/office space (temporary wallpaper already comes with an adhesive backing. How COOL is THAT!), and then for the walls that divided her office and new dining room I suggested that she have it painted with blue and gray stripes. For the dining space she didn’t need a lot of seating, she asked for 2 and hoped she could get 4. I gave her 5 including 2 that were round storage ottomans with the same fabric color as the new dinign room chairs. The reason I added ottomans instead of chairs was that I didn’t want the chair backer to close the dining space from the living room space. Ottomans have no backers so it’s a lovely smooth visual transition. For the living room, wait until you see the gorgeous blue sofa I found for her, and the ornate coffee table (which I am still drooling over). And my solution for revamping her old recliner chair was to simply add a form fitted slip cover. Easy, and economical!

FURNITURE PLACEMENT LAYOUT FOR THE eDESIGN
Below is a closer view of the layout for her office area. Instead of adding files or shelves on the wall in front of her office desk, I added 12 small elegant mirrors. Her adjacent wall was the one I designed to hold wall mounted shelves with pretty boxes for office items. Tip: mirrors are an elegant wall to add depth to a flat boring wall.
