Psst …. COME BACK IN APRIL 2019 TO SEE PHOTOS RETRIEVED FROM ARCHIVE FOR THIS NEW WEBSITE
(UNDER CONSTRUCTION)
Hi! Did you have a long weekend? I worked half day yesterday so I was able to catch up on several things – including prepping today’s post for you featuring pics of the beautiful beach front restaurant we ate at in Aruba called the Flying Fish Bone. Some tables were set on the water (like seen in the photo above), we opted for the sand table area, but I still sneaked to the water area to take a closer look at the fish on the other side of the rock.
Did I eat a lot of seafood? You betcha! I loooove oysters, slurrrp.
Upon arrival to our beach table, we get to put our shoes in the caddy rack:
Of course, the very mature people that my husband and I are .. we played footy under the table:
I loved all the decor (white wood table, etc.) and views … were amazing!
Hmmm, I should had taken this for my home’s fish tank:
Hubby made reservation’s with an intent for us to see the sunset … and it was perfect timing. We relaxed enjoying our dinner as the beautiful sky changed colors right before us. Below’s dish is called ceviche (a mixture of seafood with orange and touch of ginger = TANGY YUMNESS!)
Here’s a closer look:
I had fish for my entree …. and this gorgeous view:
Hub and I had a giggle-fest aiming to take pics photos before the sun went down … restaurant was full of couples and we all helped take pics of each other:
And then …….the sun set (romantic!):
Look at this sky below. The restaurant had spot lights to light the water edge … see our feet in the sand + water?
One of the places we decided to explore while in Aruba were the caves in Arikok. Hubby and I rented a car, then to the caves me went. Which … by the (no fainting) way .. there are no people guiding you, you simply stroll in with flashlight and explore on your own (r your knees shaking yet?).
Ummm, WHAT … enter at my own risk?? Ok. I’m a tough new york interior decorator .. I can handle anythiiing. And look at these cute goats – not scary at all. They are known to be equivalent to our deers here. I get goo goo gaga when I see deers in ny too!
Can you spot the posse that are crossing the dirt (sandy) road? Donkeys!!!!!
Look who came up right to me. Isn’t the baby ADORABLE!!!
So, onto (into!!!) the caves we went.
There were many spots to explore, one hole leading to another. We didn’t bring popcorn to keep a trail so we didn’t go crazy deep, plus did I mention that IT WAS DARK!!!!! Look how grandious the space (cave) is …
It was a bit intimidating (even with my bodyguard = hubby) on my side … remembering all those scary movies that at that moment I wish I hadn’t watched. See the yellow gleam of light on the right side … very Indiana Jones huh?
When we got closer we noticed that the light was coming from above:
Pretty cool seeing light shining in through the top:
Did I mention that THANK GOODNESS we were advised to bring a flashlight. Look how dark it is, a bit eeirie not fully being able to see what is just a few feet away.
I enhanced the above photo in Photoshop (make it brighter) to show you what I couldn’t see even with the flashlight. See photo below …. now doesn’t that bottom middle section look like a DROP? Well, it was, a few inches …. of scaryness. Oh, did I mention the bats?
See the bats? Hmmm, is it just me or is this bat looking straight at me? as soon as I heard the bats flying around I tied up my hair … no nest for them!
What do you think of the photos? Would you go exploring in caves?
Yeeeah, the exit … time to kiss the sand! I truly did LOVE exploring the caves!!! We went to another cave that had people guiding it and it wasn’t that exciting. Still cool, but it lacked the RUSH of OMG did you hear that, something moved over there … then spotting a crab on the ground!
I looove this photo, showing the cave, the sand, the ocean and beautiful sky!
Dontcha love that the license plate states that it’s One Happy Island? It sure is a happy one! In the Arikok National Park there are a few beach inlets that we can explore, like this one below:
Here they are!!!! .. more pics of our Aruba vaca! We had such a blast at the jeep excursion … the ride (‘drive’) itself was in the cRaZy desert terrain and was insanely a fun roller coaster-like ride.
Every time we entered a new crazy terrain (rock zone!!!) he warned us that it was time to ………. Shake and Bake!!!! The baking part was the strong sun. I had no idea that this Caribbean island was filled with cacti …. looking at this pic below it still looks like Arizona to me. Ummm, well …. beside the goat.
The excursion took us to several spots …. and thank goodness they gave out water booties bec it was rockie!!!
I looooooove this photo below (reminds me of why I love photography .. capturing the moment). Do you like it? Oh, the stacked rocks are wishes!
Our guide said that the tradition started by fishermen creating them as luck to grab more fish, then it grew as a tradition for tourist coming to Aruba and ‘gardening’ their wishes. You bet hubby and I made out wish …. I’ll let you know if it comes true. The excursion took us to a natural pool where we were able to snorkel.
Did I mention …. thanks goodness they gave me water shoes (booties) to climb all these rocks. Walking in high heels in NYC goes not prepare a gal to walk on these rocks … haha:
Last minute we purchased a waterproof camera and managed to take these pics ….
Water was clear, though we didn’t see tooooo many fish. Still, pretty cool swimming along and the rock (above) was the spot to rest if you wanted to get splashed my the ocean water.
The excursion also took us to the Gold Mill Ruins, here’s a peek:
Did I tell you there was CACTI everywhere??????? Check out my ‘medusa’ photo below:
We also went to the California Lighthouse, where we purchased this coconut refreshment. I didn’t take pics of the lighthouse. I wasn’t too impressed by it. And, we were told why it was called ‘California Lighthouse’, but …. ummm, I wasn’t paying attention in class. Instead I gravitate to the coconuts. Yep, I go coco for coconuts!!! Do ya SEE the size of that machete below? I’m sure no one takes her coconuts:
Slurp, slurp …. Oh, where did our group go? I really should pay more attention in class.
It was nice visiting the Alto Vista Chapel. Where people travel tofor mass. I didn’t go inside out of respect for the people inside. I love the doors:
Imagine having mass in the outdoors, sitting on the yellow cement benches? I think it beautiful + magical looking:
Oh, in the excursion I had fun stalking the lizards too. I was very surprised that we hardly spotted any in the resort, so when I spotted any I turned into a child and chased it (yep I am cool, calm, and collected like that!). This lighting pic was a view from the lighthouse where we were able to see the island from a top view.
Then we headed back to the resort. We spotted the Police Station and dropped by to say hello (my hubby’s a police officer so it’s always nice to meet fellow comrades.).
I couldn’t help take photos of this beautiful COLORFUL house, it’s so cheery looking:
Here’s another view, that’s all the pics I took of it (didn’t want them to call the cops for being a peeing-tom):
We drove back to the other side of the island to our resort. Time to pack and fly back.
Bye bye Aruba:
Aren’t these clouds soooo fluffy looking?
Now, back home it was time to CREATE OUR VACA album
